Detail- Rivers Bend explores how the Canadian landscape is continually transformed through the relationship between people and the natural environment. The painting presents a compressed composition of the Muskoka River, just south of the Brunel Locks and Goodwin Park in Huntsville, a familiar place shaped by generations of human intervention. Built in the late 1800s for the logging industry, the dam and locks continue to alter water flow and expose the river's shoreline, while now serving primarily recreational boating. Through observation and painting, I explore how natural forces, human activity, and changing cultural priorities leave their marks on the landscape. Rivers Bend reflects on how history remains embedded in familiar places, revealing a landscape in which tradition is continually transformed.

Detail - Rebirth explores the theme of tradition transformed through a landscape shaped by human intervention, memory, and the possibility of renewal. Inspired by sunset light refracting off the Muskoka River, the painting reveals a tree stump entangled in rock, a remnant of woodland cleared for development. Shifting patterns of reflected light and shadow reveal unexpected forms within the forest, including the suggestion of a female figure with a rounded belly, symbolizing fertility, resilience and regeneration. Drawing on my lifelong connection to the Muskoka River, I transform direct observation through painting, allowing hidden figures and narratives to emerge from the natural forms of the landscape. Rebirth reflects my belief that while human activity alters the environment, the natural world retains an enduring capacity for renewal and transformation.

Detail - Listen explores the theme of tradition transformed through the interconnected relationships between trees, water, land and human presence. Inspired by my observations of a silver birch that grew around a rock along the Muskoka River, the painting reflects on the changes brought by development and the clearing of the surrounding forest. Through the interplay of tree forms, shadows and reflected sunlight, three figures emerge. Two appear to communicate, while a third twists upward, suggesting new life and the possibility of regrowth. Drawing on my longstanding connection to this landscape, I transform direct observation into a narrative of resilience, connection, and renewal. Listen looks beyond the visible landscape to reveal its hidden stories and the enduring capacity of nature to adapt and sustain life.

Detail -These northern red oak trees saved me when I was lost and disoriented in the woods. The title connects to the female caryatids columns of the Acropolis. I connected with these old growth trees and their resemblance of the female form, the old ancient columns came to mind as a reflection of resilience and strength encompassing the interconnectedness of a moment in the forest. My images revolve around my experiential connections in nature, becoming humanized cultural narratives merging memories with the present.

Detail - A maple tree stands on a small piece of land that borders a marsh and river channel on the South Branch of the Muskoka River.This place is very special where there are no cottages, past the Rocky Narrows where you feel the river’s wildness. The tree marks the spot where the frogs sing, beavers build homes, otters and the moose swim. This growth of the limbs striving for light reflects perseverance and resilience of the trees and forest that live in the wetlands of the South Branch of the Muskoka River.

Detail - This old spruce grew out of an old growth stump left by the loggers in the depression. The tree has been subjected to many human interactions. This tree is a warrior connecting to the caryatid columns reflecting strength and resilience between nature and humans.

Chosen for the Convergence Art Exhibition, Downtown Oshawa, September 19/20. The painting reflects Wendy's connections with Isabel McLaughlin as an artist through life experiences and inspirations by bringing the inside outside spiritually in a similar duality of our families histories, legacies that contributed to settling and building Canada. In this composition Wendy has incorporated the back view of Springvale/Webster Mansion 1797 with the Palm House Greenhouse. During Wendy's residency at Parkwood Estate she was inspired by a story from the people that keep Parkwood vibrant. She brings this idea of remembering by the gathering of their stories wanting to reflect their sense of belonging is interconnected with her personal sense of belonging. This painting is about one story in particular that was shared, when it snows the greenhouse is like a snow globe. Greenhouses were the way the first families were able to cultivate vegetables being able to live off the land. Wendy grew up with a large backyard greenhouse built by her grandfather. Wendy imagines her grandfather running through the backdoor of Springvale just like the McLaughlin girls playing in the Greenhouses emulating her sense of belonging and connection because she grew up in her grandfather's old house on Elmgrove , Oshawa. This artwork speaks to the history of Oshawa remembering the legacy of families like the McLaughlin family that nurtured the art community, uniting the people of Oshawa as well as supporting their well being through social gatherings and economic stability.

Detail - Landscape is a source of memory, connection, and nourishment. Photography is integral to my process, allowing me to gather fleeting moments of light, water, trees, and human experience that I later transform through painting. During my time in Temiskaming in 2025, I observed a child at Lake Temiskaming, absorbed in a moment of contentment and connection to place, unaware of a storm gathering beyond the horizon. The moment remained with me as an image of presence, innocence, and the fleeting nature of experience. My work explores how landscape nourishes us, holding memories, shaping belonging, and sustaining our connection to place.
